Shortsea Promotion Centre Poland joins the TENTacle support group

Gdynia, February 2016

Even though TENTacle is still in the project planning phase, the number of so-called associated partners increases. With the Shortsea Promotion Centre (SPC) Poland TENTacle has a new strong supporter combining industry and policy interests and being an integral part of a real pan-European SPC network.

The SPC Poland promotes and develops the shortsea shipping (SSS) market by assisting entities dealing with SSS and setting up European transport chains. Furthermore they cooperate closely with the European Committee and the European Conference of the Transport Ministries in the scope of SSS.

“Promoting shortsea shipping, the SPC Poland facilitates connections between regions in Europe and supports the revitalisation of peripheral regions. Further, we promote the general sustainability of transport and want to increase its efficiency. The TENTacle project supports our intention, as we do have the same aim. This is why we joined and support it.“, states Krzystof Rodzoch, Chairman of the Board of the SPC Poland.

In Poland, there are two challenges standing ahead. The first one is the connection of current short sea links to the defined Core Network Corridors in the Baltic Sea Region. The second challenge is the connection of the short sea routes, via seaports to ports in the Polish hinterland. This is the future perspective.

The TENTacle case “Gdynia transport node” aims to answer two questions: (1) How to stimulate the growth potential of the corridor entry/exit node which has, at the same time, a key transport gateway function? (2) How to develop a “last mile” infrastructure in and around an urban node on the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor to both serve the metropolitan growth and the seaborne transit (via Motorways of the Sea links)?

”The SPC Poland is an association composed of all key sea transport oriented actors, including the Port of Gdynia. Therefore, SPC Poland is able to support TENTacle with the evaluation of forthcoming Core Network Corridor development, basing upon SSS and Motorways of the Sea”, summarizes Ryszard Toczek, Head of Analyses and Cooperation Department of the TENTacle partner City Hall of Gdynia.
